So, I had this idea blossom in my head over a couple of weeks. Let's cut to it and show you what it's all about!

The HikiCulture Once-A-Year Grand Video Game Contest!

Ever wanted to be the best, like no one ever was? Well, now is your chance! You can compete in a variety of gaming challenges (either for a high score, or the fastest time, or potentially another challenge) that push your skills to the limit!



Some might find this hard, but for most games, it usually boils down to submitting a screen shot of the high score you have in the game you are competing in. Another game might require a video showing your quickest time, and that might be difficult too. Please inquire about recording and submitting your video.



Unfortunately, no. Games will be chosen each year, and only 5 to 10 at that. Why? Because we need to keep it fair and balanced (like Fox News), and give everyone a chance to compete in new games.



Of course! You are the ones competing, aren't you? Make a suggestion in the Game suggestion thread, and it will be looked into for sure. Keep in mind that some games don't really have a "high score" or anything like that.



No way! This is a competition, remember? You need to use your skill, not save-stating skills! Anyone can do that! It takes a skilled person to get a high score!



Then those people are downright dirty cheaters who don't deserve the score. What do we do if we find out about this? We give them a stern slap across the internet. And they cannot compete the following year. And we're telling their mother.

I'm totally down for this. I hope we get at least one shmup in the five games because that's the main genre I've been playing lately. Either way this sounds like a lot of fun!

Aww, i thought we were talking multiplayer here But this idea still sounds good. Even if i do suck at high-scoring

Yes! This sounds like fun. I probably won't come close to winning, but I'll still compete.

Multiplayer could be possible, if we all play a game we all don't lag in. I know of a couple, but I'll wait until we get a couple of games suggested.

Whether I compete or not depends on what games are chosen. Also I might struggle with the screen shot thing.

Sure, l can't guarantee greatness on my part though.

For those who want an easy way to take screenshots and videos of a game they're playing I suggest fraps. The videos will be large because there isn't enough time to encode it while recording but you can easily convert it to a compressed format.

Also I encourage the people who aren't normally good at highscore games to still participate and practice the games. :P Muscle memory and memorization is also a key part to games.

What kind of criteria are we looking for in the game nomination? Is emulation fine?

I think emulation would be ok, so long as we use GOOGLE when searching for the images we use on the wonderful emus.

Also, screen shots are easily made in Windows naturally by pressing the PrntScrn key and pasting into photoshop, paint, etc.


Criteria, huh?

1. The game must be either emulation or online games
2. You must be able to either
a). Post a high score
b). Versus someone else
Examples: Flash Pacman(Harder than the original Pacman because there are no patterns) , Tetris Friends (requires signing up, but not that big of a deal)
3. Scores must be posted in screen shot form or in video form. Realizing that not everyone can do video, screen shots are generally accepted.
4. Awards will be given accordingly!

We should also have one-a-month online get-togethers for FPS games such as CSS or COD or whatever...

I'd be up for some high score gaming even though I've never gotten too serious with it. I don't care about multiplayer, really.

TF2 or CS 1.6 with Teamspeak would be awesome.

romhustler.com can satisfy our rom needs for emulators, it also has links to emulators I trust personally, most of the old school games would work well with any computer and often have a score. Super Mario Bros anyone? maybe some ancient Klax? Just saying that the resources are there and the list per emulator is huge. Heck we could all play poke'mon, it doesnt really matter as long as everyone has fun.

an old school pokemon tournement would be sweet. my rattata is top percentile, yo.

You can get a modified version of Project64 which supports online play, but due to speed issues I'm guessing we'd have to play with people in the same continent

I'm looking forward to the games we play for score mainly. My gaming laptop is dead unfortunately.

I suggest we play League Of Legends.. Since there are some players already.. But that would be kinda hard for those who doesn't play the game..
