Post Why Change Project Names?
:mad God damn it why do companies have to change the names of the various products they release? Recently Microsoft announced its new product the Kinetic, formally know as Natal. I just don't get it. Natal was a perfectly good name. Unique no real definition. Yet it was changed, I was contemplating buying it, but not any more.

This happens with all the cool sounding project names. The Dolphin became the Gamecube, and the Revolution became the Wii. Why God why do video game companies do this?

Are you implying that you only buy products with 'cool names', regardless of their quality? :laugh

They're "project" names. Meaning, it's just a side name until an official title is announced. I know how you feel. I'm glad they kept the Nintendo 3Ds as it is though, so that's one exception.

I think Natal was a cool sounding name even though it doesn't mean anything? Kinetic is a smart name too too gimmicky. It doesn't really concern me as I don't have a next gen console yet, but when I do get one it'll be the PS3.

I should go into marketing. I knew I missed my calling.

"Natal" always reminded me of pregnant women, even after I learned how it was supposed to be pronounced. :unsure

it's kinect, which i'm assuming is a misspelled so-cal pronounced connect.

anything that videotapes me i'm not interested in. i read a little about it and microsoft said that this is for people intimidated by controllers - if you can't operate the controller, then you shouldn't be playing video games in the first place.

Every time I heard Project Natal, I always thought of the word "anal".

I never was amused by this new gimmick of Microsoft's. I'll always stick to the traditional controller and none of this "wave your body" crap that makes you look like a retard in front of others. The Wii was an exception, but Kinect is just... no. Looks like it'll get complicated overtime.
