The Lord of the Rings.

Not because it's particularly cheery, just because it's so good.

Signs, 12 minutes long. Does this count as a film?

Mulholland Drive.

It's good for learning to create elaborate schemes to place the blame on other people for own shortcomings, which always makes me feel better.

Good comedies. Unfortunately, there aren't many good ones.

I like my comedies to be arbitrary and inane as fuck. I don't like "intelligent comedies" just like I don't like comedians who try to be professors rather than funny-men.

Both of those stories are about accepting the bad in life and trying to turn it around.

i often find sadder movies are best when i feel down. usually movies with themes of alienation, i guess. maybe it's just comforting to have something i can relate to at some level.

vive l'amour
all about lily chou-chou
two-lane blacktop
kings of the road
fallen angels
yi yi
the beekeeper

so pretty much just some of my favorite movies..

That, is awesome.

In my case, i think it would be:

Fight Club
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
A Clockwork Orange
2001: A Space Odyssey
Black Swan
The Wrestler

(This is a bit off-topic, but how are the other Aronofsky films, pi and requiem for a dream?.)
