 Argh, period cramps, argh!
Fellow female-bodied humans:
Ever get hit with period cramps so bad you can't move?
I'm just lying in bed, nearly shivering from the pain. I took a bunch of OTC pain meds, but they either aren't enough to do the job or haven't kicked in yet.
When the guy I'm staying with gets home from work, I might have to ask him to buy me beer to drink in bed. There's a beer that's sold around here that seems to work pretty well at getting rid of period cramps (it has sediment from the brewing process in it - something about that plus the alcohol). I'd go get some right now if I wasn't immobilized with pain.
Arrrrgh!!!!
Anyway, anyone know of any period cramp remedies that work - besides the stuff they sell at the pharmacy, and booze as a last resort?

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
Are you still in Aus? if so, sometimes a hot water bottle helps me. If you are back in the US, it might be too hot anyway to try that. Other than that I have nothing, since you have already taken painkillers... My cramping is never so bad I can't move though, you really must have a bad dose of it! Hope you feel better soon~~ and dont move around much!, ha ha coz when I'm on my period I find that my body is much more sensitive to pain, like if I bump my leg it hurts 10x more than it normally would... and since I'm so un-co when I'm on my period, it happens quite a lot

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
I'm still in Aus. Thanks for the tip about the hot water bottle. Might try that. Where do you put the hot water bottle? On your abdomen? Interesting about the sensitivity to pain thing. I don't get that, but my immune system seems not to work so well from about 2 days before my period til the period's nearly over. Hence a period often comes with a mild cold or whatever. And fortunately most don't come with cramps this bad; it's kind of random. Especially this time - I was sitting in the lounge room, peacefully working away at the computer when suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks. Weird!

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
That's only happened to me a few times. Usually I can handle them after tylenol or ibuprofen, etc. But there have been a few times when nothing helped. My mom had indometriosis & had horrible cramps her whole life until she had to have a hysterectomy when I was a year old because of a tumor in her uterus.

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
Ugh, wow, a uterine tumor sounds painful! Now I feel fortunate that I don't have anything like that.
Before I had been pregnant, I hardly ever got bad cramps. This is something new. And it's kind of random. Most months, my periods aren't so bad.
Plus, this morning I realized that I probably had a urinary tract infection too. So I went to the doctor. Got antibiotics. And am feeling better already.
I think it's fairly easy to explain what period cramps feel like (at least mine):
It feels like when you have really bad diarrhea - so bad that it gives you stabbing / burning pains in your abdomen alternating with intense dull ones.
I hardly ever get diarrhea that painful so it took me a while to notice the similarity in feeling. Once I did, I explained it to my then-bf, and he was like, "OW!!! No wonder!"

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
What are the symptoms for a UTI? For me, cramps feel like someone has stuck their hand inside my stomach and grabbed my insides really tight and is slowly twisting them around. Thats really the only way I can describe it.

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
Most common symptoms (in order of severity): frequent urination, constantly feeling like you have to urinate, a certain smell to the urine, pain during urination, constant pain in your urethra / urinary tract / bladder, blood in urine For me, it's usually just constant pain in my bladder and urethra. And when I pee, it really burns, and the pee has a certain awful smell to it. But I'm especially prone to UTI's. Seems like the more you've had, the more susceptible you become to them and the worse they are. Well, at least in my case . . . The good news is that I've only had blood in my urine from a UTI once or twice. Ow.

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
Yes...For me it feels sort of like foot cramps in my abdomen, but they don't really go away. They just keep inensifying and then ebbing away.
Anyways, I read an article once that I can't find anymore, but this doctor recommended starting off by taking four ibuprofen the second you start to feel like you might get cramps, and then taking two more when you start having them again. They key is apparently not to let them really "take hold" or whatever because then it makes them difficult to get rid of. I found it actually works pretty well, but I can't tolerate such huge amounts of ibuprofen so I haven't been doing it. So, most of the time, I use a heating pad and lay down in a fetal position so it takes the stress of your back muscles and play a video game or something to distract myself. Also, stretching a bit seems to help. While I'm microwaving my heating pad I stand around thusting my hips out and touching my toes. Everything else, like exercise and masturbation, seems to make it worse for me.

Man. Sure glad I'm not a girl. That sounds horrible. *ahem* Women sure do talk about that stuff openly. >_>

 Re: Argh, period cramps, argh!
Haha, I more or less use forums to talk about stuff openly. It feels good to talk openly - but mostly only in text and to people I don't know irl.
Offline, I'm very reserved. People call me "guarded", "secretive", etc, but those terms imply that I keep my more personal thoughts and feelings to myself on purpose. It's not intentional; it's just the way I am. Elusive, not evasive, or whatever.
Also, writing comes more naturally to me than talking does. When I write / type, my thoughts just kind of spill out.
By contrast, I'm not very talkative in general, and I'm hardly ever comfortable with verbal conversation about personal stuff. In irl conversation, I just try to make people laugh, and talk about things like music, and cars, and trains, and whatnot . . .

Depends how it ends up that way. I mean, you ever seen what a .44 Magnum can do to a woman's pussy?
