Post Series that ended up disappointing you
There have been some series I began watching hoping they were great, yet over time they completely or partially lost their appeal. Which series were like this for you and why?

X-files: the first 3 seasons were so great and I thoroughly enjoyed all the weirdness they investigated. But as the series kept getting more entangled with all that conspiracy about aliens and Fox Mulder’s sister, I rapidly lost interest. It was too much and not at all captivating. Way better when the conspiracy just was vague and in the background and there were still other weird things in the world besides aliens. It ended up a chore to watch.

Lost: The first 1-2 seasons were great. Plane crash. Lost on an uncharted island. Worse: Lost on an unusual island with polar bears, a sonic defense mechanism and a hostile black cloud. But as the survivor group and the Others were mixed and we got more into the Richard/Jacob thing, the time jumping and the Widmore group’s arrival, the series became less captivating. I will still see the end because the premise is interesting, but it has lost the appeal it once had.

Flash forward: Great idea, but too many people, too many people looking alike and too many future sights to keep track of. Also I’m not nuts about FBI series, though that’s more of a personal preference.

South Park Season 10 and onwards (there are quite a few gems though)

I've found that any anime that ends before the manga ends up disappointing me. The ones that come immediately to mind are Berserk and Claymore.

I agree with that. Although I liked the first Full Metal Alchemist series I think I'd be less dissapointed if it was created after the manga ended (like the second series although I haven't watched it yet).

Grey's Anatomy - Season 1-3 were very interesting. But after season 4 ... I didn't like it, especially that Izzie and Denny thing.

Flash Forward - First episodes were interesting but then there were too much FBI stuff involved. And the cast was too big.

X-Files - I could aggre with Skilpadde. The firstthree seasons were great. It really became too chaotic after that.

Hmm.... I can't remember more now... :closedeyes

ill put another one in for the pacific. It was hyped up too much in the media here, saying how awesome it was, ended up being boring as hell. It just didn't hold my attention, couldn't really follow the story.. yeah, just not interesting.

I agree. Well, I didn't mind the second series until the last two chapters really. That power of friendship rubbish was a little tough to take juxtoposed against the tone of the rest of the series.

I enjoyed Claymore till the finish. But, I haven't read the manga so maybe it is because I had no expectations of what could have happened.

I was trying to think of something which wasn't anime to list, but now that I think about it, I don't watch random television much at all.

And Inuyasha. The last season was completely butchered. Truly horrible and rushed.

I can vouch for Band of Brothers.

It's been so long that I can't remember what eventually started ruining the series, but I remember loving Sliders and then after about 2 seasons it became a mess.

Elfen Lied at the moment. It's just too boring right now and the parts where the main characters are at home have zero entertainment value. :confused
Mirai Nikki because I found it was ongoing.

I found the opening more entertaining than the programme itself. I didn't hate it, and the extreme violence is always a bonus. Something didn't pull me in though, I didn't really care.

Oh you mean the opening sequence where Lucy is escaping or the OP? So far the escape scene has been my favorite part and the decapitated human meat shield made me laugh for some probably sick reason.

I meant the OP, but you're right it does have a ball grabbing opening sequence. I still see people recommending it as must see anime and I can't entirely disagree, you should see it, but not because it's the most amazing show ever. I think its another one where the anime diverts from the manga too.

If I remeber right it didn't diverge all that much. They eliminated one pointless character, a girl who wore diapers, and the manga kept going so obviously, spoiler alert, Lucy survived.

Anyway a couple for me were X-Files and Lost.

I agree with Flash Forward, though mainly because they cancelled the 2nd series and didn't provide a clear ending point in the first, so we'll never know wtf was going on!!!

Star Trek Enterprise...why they had to kill the chief engineer in the very last episode, when he had survived far worse in previous series I will never know. They didn't even do it well...ugh

The last series of Dr Who ended badly and I don't have high hopes for this current series either.

I'm sure there's more if I could remember them.

i'm with everyone on the X files. started out as an amazing cult show then got to mainstream for me.
the simpsons. haven't watched since around 2001 but was a diehard fan through the 90's. i once overheard my father say that since i'd laughed it meant the simpsons were on. i remember seeing an episode one sunday i was off after working every sunday eve for months straight in 01 and calling a freind to see if what she thought. she was pissed i'd interrupted the simpsons. i couldn't believe it at first - the calf was golden. then i remembered that blind faith in anything is folly and just stopped caring.
futurama. i liked that Leela was never going to love fry and want something more than to settle like marge.
what not to wear. i know it's stupid to like this show, and to like laughing at other's mistakes, and every episode is the exact same, but i do like it. i just want the fashion advice to for once be different than to throw a cardigan over a knee length dress.

Berserk, because the ending disappointed me (enough to read the manga to know what happens afterwards, and I never read manga).

Welcome to the NHK, because the main character was an ass. I couldn't relate to him at all. I stopped watching after about 3 episodes.

Actually, I HATED NHK the first time I tried to watched it. I stopped at episode three, too. Then I gave it a second chance
and now it's probably in my top 5. It really picked up.

Plus, even though the main chara isn't exactly likeable, I think he's more well-fleshed out than say, a hero archetype or
something.

Luther. The plot became way too complicated, it was like they were making it up as they went along. A very unsatisfying ending. :thumbsdown
