Grave of the Fireflies also effected me quite a bit. It also made me depressed.

What makes it more sad is that it's based on a true story.

are we talking about long-term or short-term effects?

many movies (or series) make me depressed for a short period of time. like avatar, requiem for a dream, grave of the fireflies and stuff.

there were also a few films who could have marked a long term impact on me, im not really sure if they did tho maybe its just coincidence that i have changed in that period of time

Mommy Dearest. Saw that when I was like 7 and I still remember and think about it, lol. That mother is a fucking lunatic. A movie I was not too long ago called Sybil, the Shawshank Redemption, the Core, Armageddon. That's all I can think of for now.

Post Re: Movies that had a Powerful Effect On You
I got chills at the end of inception, repeatedly for 10 minutes as I thinking about what happened, lol.

Fight Club is mos def one of my favorite movies ever! I kind of want to meet a girl like Marla Singer---a lot!!!!!!

Taxi Driver, also, mos def.

But I'd have to say that the movies that had the biggest impact on my life were the Land Before Time movies that I watched like 20 times each when I was wee - because I learned so much stuff, like: how to not be a jerk 101; no matter how different someone is from you, fundamentally, they are more the same than different; everything's better when we're all friends, or at least get along; there's always going to be carnivores out there - they're not necessarily evil, they were just born carnivores, sometimes you have to be brave and kill them, because otherwise they would kill you etc.

and the Lion King!

Labyrinth. I saw it when I was really young and always remembered bits from it but I didn't know what the film was until like 10~ years later. I had dreams about it for many years

the first time i saw Misery i was shocked, because the character annie strongly reminded me of my mother, and it was such a relief to know that those types of behavior were not normal, or an exaggeration on my behalf. it was her, not me.

movies that left me in a rage were disneys Hercules because of my love for classic myths and the way disney chose to both christianize and americanize them, but what else would that company do? so my rage quickly turned into disgust.i was pissed after i saw SLC Punk which should be called slc posers & stereotypes, for obvious reasons.

i always get a deeply emotional response when watching most of Miyazake's films.. in a good way. i cried when i saw Howl's Moving Caste and Ponyo for the first time and was left feeling joyful after each time i've seen them. other movies that have inspired joy and wonder are Amelie & The Princess Bride.

I don't know really but I agree about the land before time movies, I also learned a lot of from those as a kid. I also agree with cuckoos nest, that one left me kind of depressed and thinking about it for a while. some of the most influential ones are probably the old Disney films, because I used to watch them a lot when I was a kid, things like Tarzan, Hercules and Alladin.

Also, the recent Star Wars films like The Phantom Menace, the Matrix films, and the Spiderman films.

I almost forgot, terminator 2, that gave me nightmares as a kid..

edit 5: the first harry potter.

Yes! to these. 70's cinema was the best ... there is something atmospheric about them, like the plot is there just to create mood ... taxi driver, rosemary's baby, and cuckoo have been mentioned. what else? the deer hunter, for sure.

more recently: magnolia and the tenenbaums (!!verymuch).
