Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I actually went out and bought the whole Anne Rice series after reading it to restore my faith in vampire literature.
Filled with purple prose, countless grammatical errors and the loosest plotline to be found outside of fanfiction. What a waste of paper, and what a waste of my time.

I once made the mistake of venturing into the self-help section of the book store. I bought a book by Osho entitled 'Freedom: The courage to be yourself'. First and last time I but anything by him I think.

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.
As much of a Star Trek fan that I am, I HATE the book series.

This is probably the worst thing I've ever read. Haha. I like fantasy, but not if it's like this. http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum/52 ... story.html

Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
I don't know if they were the worst, I might remember others that were worse later, but the ones that came to mind, not counting the ones I gave up after a page or a chapter: Stephen King: "Needful things". Gawd what a bore. Even worse since I expect so much more from King. Anne Rice: "Interview with the vampire". Snore. I wasn't able to read it through, so I watched the movie instead when it was aired, yawning my jaws off.

Middlemarch by George Eliot. The mere thought of it makes me suicidal.

Tie between my 10th and 11th grade history books (what little I actually read of them).

Another memorabe book I've read, for all the wrong reasons. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. 15th century work on politics. Maybe not the worst book I've ever read, but definately the most difficult.

Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
oh how could I forget "of mice and men"? Had to read it in high school. it was so boring I couldn't get through more than a few pages. The teacher allowed us to watch the movie a bit later, it was so boring I actually fell asleep. My own snore woke me up!

I skipped to the last page and ruined the ending.

Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
I took once Twilight out of the shelves at the book store years ago and started the first pages there. But.. then I thought "Nah, it's not worth my money." It wasn't so popular here at that time and the hype about it after really surprised me.

Did you finish it? The ending killed me.

My fave part was the umpteen pages of who begotted who. Yawn. Some nice and unusual names though.

Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
@Noriko
Yeah, unfortunately I have read the whole thing. There are certainly a few parts of it here and there that are very well-written -- I'd have to say that the love poetry of the Song of Songs is among the best ever written -- but overall it's a mess. It is not so much poorly written as it is terrifyingly idiotic and brutal. A book whose main character is a deity who cycles between saintliness and psychopathy from moment to moment would make for an interesting novel -- as a guide to life, the universe, and everything, it's worthless.

Re: Worst book you have ever read/attempted to read?
My favorite bible story is the one where the prophet called a bear out of the woods to kill two kids for calling him bald. Seriously, it's in there.
Actually, I liked the bible. It has some really boring parts but it has some pretty cool parts like that one and it shows you a lot of what people believe and why.
