Anime is like any other thing: Some of it is good; most of it is shit.

I'm mostly into anime films. I've never come across an anime TV series that really looked good enough to watch, though there probably are good ones out there.

I've decided to take a break from watching art house films and will watch anime until the end of the year. I'm sick of watching the same types of films all the time. All I was watching were black & white films from the 50's and before which was becoming kind of... boring. Mostly everything I was watching was of high-quality, but it's time to switch things up as things were getting a little monotonous.

I've been watching anime films since the early 2000's, but never had interest in anime series until recently when I came across Texhnolyze. I was so captivated by the character design that I knew I had to check out the series. This prompted me to find other series where the character design was done by Yoshitoshi Abe. After looking around I decided to check out Haibane Renmei as it has both nice character design and a very interesting premise to it. I'm very glad to have discovered these series and may eventually check out Serial Experiments Lain, though it doesn't sound quite as good as the aforementioned series.





It looks like Haibane Renmei is and Texhnolyze are well-known amongst you people, which is sort of a surprise. I didn't think they'd be considering that they've very few votes on IMDB, but it seems like lots of anime series receive less than 1000 votes on there.

I'm currently watching Last Exile, which only one person on this forum (comicgreen) has mentioned. Anyone else know of it? The character design is top notch, but Range Murata, the person who did the design, unfortunately only worked on that series. If he ever does character design on another series I'll be sure to check it out. Character design matters a lot to me. I could care less about the story of an anime as long as the animation is beautiful. Serious.

I love Haibane Renmei. I cried a lot watching this.

Ah Haibane Renmei! I remember starting that but never finishing it (I was wondering what the name of the series was.) I was also thinking you'd like Serial Experiments Lain but then I saw it in the post (I personally liked it better than Haibane Renmei but mainly due to the psychological nature).

I've been bored of anime lately because I can't find any series that stand up to my favorites. I get tired of all the cliches and excessive fan service in anime today which are applied just to gain a wider audience. It really diminishes the art, and creates a large amount of copies of the exact same shows. Nothing I watch make me think like SEL or Paranoia Agent did, or somewhat relate to (NHK). I've been watching Code Geass but it doesn't seem like a series that will have an impact on me. It just seems like a show I'd come home and watch on YTV ().

I know there's more out there but the process of shoveling through all the bad series is tiring.

I like watching anime but not all.
I don't watch the long series with more than 52 episodes, and 52 episodes is often too much.
A few years ago I did watch a lot anime but now I watch less anime.
Maybe I hadn't as much expectationas I have now.

I just started watching El Cazador de la Bruja. Looks pretty good so far.
Haibane Renmei and Seriel Experiments Lain were both great. I felt the same way about Code Geass. It was something I watched but, meh, whatever. Didn't really help that I just didn't like any of the characters until Anya in season 2.
I seem to be the only one who actually likes fan service. Not only do I like the female body but it can be used to great comedic effect like in High School of the Dead.

i just started watching Galaxy Express 999 (subtitled) on crunchy roll. has anyone else read the manga or seen the series?

I hate the entire new autum season anime lineups with the exception of togainu no chi :< i seriously hope the next bunch of series won't be as trashy.

Try Death Note. That's my recommendation. But I agree with your statement mostly, but I thought that was great for a series.

I haven't read this thread, let alone this page properly at all, I just saw that statement and had to give my 2 pennies-worth... so I'll probably properly reply later.

I'm casual fan of anime, I watch a few series here and there, I'm usually selective with what I watch.
If anyone hasn't seen it yet I would recommend Welcome to the NHK. The main character is a hikikomori and
it shows his daily life and struggles. This one was quite enjoyable since it was something most can relate to, especially
here.

Can't abide it.

I'm not going to boast or anything but I like anime, I've seen over 790+ different anime and a total over 17,000+ episodes. When I'm not gaming I am anime watching.

kinda sounds like you boastin'.....its all good tho i'm picky when it comes to anime...plus i only watch about 4 hours of anime a day sumtimes less...you watch subs too huh? i only watch dubz kno any good sites? (already use dubhappy and just dubs and animenetzone)

No boasting, I just don't watch anime before my birth, I rarely if any get the comedic humor in them.Also i watch all types of anime, subs and dubs no discrimination except for those before my birth. Aside from that you can use the site AnimeFreak.com to watch dubs or certain title releases you want to watch. If you can't find it on that site, you'd have to google it my friend.

Shigurui is the slickest shit I've seen in a looooong time. Everything I've ever watched before pales in comparison. Available on Netflix.

Favorite genres include: mystery/suspense, horror, mecha, yaoi, and slice-of-life moe fanservice. ^^

Lately, I've been watching Kuroshitsuji (delicious, delicious fanservice) and rewatching the whole Gundam franchise...still on Mobile Suit Gundam. Just reminds me how much I fucking love Char.

I've been watching Bokurano (after reading the manga and finishing watching Shadow Star Narutaru) but I think I'll pick up a few others. I can't seem to find any good depressing series though, or ones that really make a statement about the human mind.
Bokurano is excellent though and I reccomend it (although I think I enjoyed the manga more).

I've seen Shigurui last night. Excellent piece. Something that has a similar more modern, more or less comedic, but still gory aspect would be Gantz. Sometime next year in Jan. and some time in the winter of the same year, they're coming out with a 2 part live action film of Gantz.

Ah, my first memory of Anime was way back in 91-93, don't quite remember the year. DragonBall Z was on after or before Sailor Moon on channel 62 here in KC at 6 or 6:30 in the morning before school. It got to the fight with Nappa, then it got replaced and Sailor Moon stayed. After that it wasn't until 1997 when I ate 3/4 ounce of mushrooms, that my friend had the hentai Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. That crazy Anime combined with the mushrooms led me to check out DragonBall Z when it was on TooNami. I fell in love, and now Goku is definately one of my heroes and who gives me strength no matter how sh*tty I feel. From there I wound up watching Sailor Moon, couldn't help it. You name it, I've seen it. I think too much T&A is stupid, but most of the Anime isn't too bad with it. I'm watching High School of the Dead now, and it's pretty cool even though I can tell whoever made it has plenty of bad thoughts!

First anime I watched was probably Voltron long, long ago. I didn't know what anime was, it was just another cartoon to me.
Then about five years ago I started really getting into anime.
Right now I'm watching Avatar the Last Air Bender. Not anime but similar and a pretty cool story.

I think I've outgrown my Anime phase. I just don't feel it anymore. Not sure why. The style doesn't appeal to me as much. I do enjoy the old nostalgic classics every once in a while. Animes that do really catch my eye nowadays are the ones with a unique and complex story that don't stretch out for hundreds of unnecessary episodes.

....and yaoi still gets me...
