Post Re: Serial Killer Art
this is interesting but creepy!
There was a prison wall mural that has always fascinated me, done by a convicted pedophile. Unfortunately I dont know his name, only that he was in the Maitland Gaol. from the only website that I could find about it (A paranormal webiste, so not sure how believable the info is!)
Quote:
One of the most interesting things we were shown on the night was a cell above the kitchen that was filled with beautiful paintings of Australian bush animals. As we admired the artwork we were quite disturbed to learn that they had been painted by a pedophile. Although seemingly innocent, there was a sinister story behind the the paintings. It is believed that they represent the dark thoughts of the obviously mentally disturbed inmate that once lived there.

Above the window is the head of a Tasmanian tiger, an extinct animal that was once known for it's ferocious and predatory nature. If you follow the tiger's gaze to the wall to the left you will see two baby possums playing upon the branches of a eucalyptus tree. Wide-eyed and innocent, they're completely oblivious to the danger lurking nearby. Guarding the possums is an echidna in a hat and big boots. He's leaning up against a wooden post, and unfortunately for those sweet baby possums, he's fast asleep. The pair of bats hanging nearby represent the cover of darkness under which the predator commits his ghastly deeds, and the butterfly represents the freedom to do what he likes. A bizarre and chilling take on what would have otherwise been seen as just beautiful paintings by an artistic prisoner.

the only image i could find of it:

Not a serial killer in my mind, but his art would fit in nicely here.

^ That one's to my tastes. :surprised

Also John Wayne Gacy has always interested me and its strange seeing his drawing of a clown there.

Charlie Manson's music. I know we don't know if he actually killed anybody but he led a group who did the serial killings.

I can't have any interest in anything serial killers do. They don't deserve the attention or the publicity.

The fact that they're serial killers is the entire reason stuff like this is interesting though - like it's part of some drive to get an insight into that kind of mindset. It's not just art, that's coincidentally done by murderers.

Not only that, i doubt they check the forums much :p

Lol they may not, but they are allowed to use computers & do have internet access, so they may. But I have no desire to see into the mind of a serial killer. I find it disturbing, but certainly not fascinating.

It's pretty fucking sick how some of them have become celebrities - the amount of money people have made from movies, books etc made about them.
Issei Sagawa who murdered and cannibalised a woman is a celebrity in Japan and is invited onto guest shows and the like.

I think anyone can kill a person. Or at least be a collaborator in horrible things. Nazi Germany comes to mind, or Rwanda.

Hell, I like chocolate, and I know for a fact that I get it through child labor. The mind of a murderer is the mind of the average person.
I also think the pictures reflect that. They just look like normal doodles to me.

Agreed. Everyone has the potential. Take the 'quiet, good-natured'' taxi driver who recently killed 12, seriously injured 25 then killed himself in Cumbria in England.

Ted Bundy is my favorite serial killer. Dude was smart and received scholarships and was working with politicians. He gave that all up to kill people.

Omg. I think I'm in love with that guy. I'm going to steal that idea when I start dropping off the bodies.
Except I think I will make it in the shape of a giant middle finger.

I agree with senmee. No one is anything of particular importance just because they kill. We are all animals and are all violent by nature. Some suppress it better than others and society tells us to anyway. Others don't bother suppressing it at all, and in effect, become serial killers. People have their reasons. I, personally, have no intentions of killing. They aren't monsters, though. Just regular folks. I don't alienate people from society because I feel aliented myself a lot of the time due to my views and choices.

^ I agree with the above - most people have the potential, given the right circumstances, as was demonstrated in Milgram's classic "electric shock" experiments, which have recently been replicated with the same results.

I'm curious about people who use violence excessively because I don't understand it because I can't relate to it. A lack of understanding causes curiosity, for me.

You're right, Milgram's experiment clearly displays the capability for cruelty in people when social inhibitors are removed. In that case the participant doesn't feel responsible for the pain they are administering because they are strongly urged by a, 'scientist.' It's not their fault that it appears the person receiving the shocks they are administering is in severe pain. The blame is displaced to the people running the experiment.

I always find it hard to believe when people say, 'I couldn't kill or harm another person.' You probably could, given the right enviroment, encouragement or other factor.

I'm not sure if he counts as a serial killer being that he never killed anyone with his own hands, but I think this fits here kinda anyway:

Hitler's painting was not bad, from my point of view. Then again, what do I know about art?

When I think of an 'artist' I don't think of someone who can make an accurate representation of something, I think of someone who can make a creative representation of something. I'm not sure if that's what the dictionary definition says, but, I mean, is just replicating an image really art?

I think Hitler's "art" says a lot about him. He's not exactly an outside-of-the-box painter. He pays high attention to detail - there are so many little intricacies in a lot of his paintings. I don't find a lot of them to have much feeling - they just are what they are------or rather, are what they are of - and that's it. . .

This is a cool thread. :pirate
