Re: Post songs you've written here.
Here's a handful of "tracks" I made over the summer last year. They're all pretty horrible, but still fun to listen to every now and then; leave me a comment if you manage to sit through any of them in they're entirety! http://soundcloud.com/spacegate/tracks

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Those tunes reminded me of game music I used to listen to on the Amiga, Silentium. You have a good sense of movement.
If I'm honest Tricky, that kind of music is the exact opposite of the sort of music I like. It sounded technically good, although it felt like there was something missing too. A melody or vocal to break up the repitition. I liked Lectrofanboyrmas1 the best, even though I felt you might be emulating a style there.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Lol I understand Reanimator and it's cool. I think what honestly drove me toward exploring that type of "music" was a rejection of all the melodically driven music I had been listening to and playing for years. After about 5 years of playing the guitar hours a day, I grew to hate what I once loved. I can't hardly stand to play the guitar for even five minutes anymore. Which is sad because it WAS so much fun for me in the beginning. With dance/electronic music, it is just about making cool noises and having fun, not whether it is any good. I'm sure I'll find that aspect in playing guitar again, but not for awhile.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Those tracks are pretty good Silentium. Missing In Action reminds me of something from Castlevania - and that's a very good thing. Winter. Forest. Early Morning was really good as well, had a gentle Royksopp vibe about it. The lead synth that did the melody sounds really nice. Forgot how good FruityLoops could be - good stuff. Haven't had a chance to listen to your stuff LordTricky, but rest assured I'll be on the case. Some types of dance/electronic music I quite like (Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin, Nathan Fake, etc) but there is some stuff that I find abit difficult to listen to. Although this viewpoint can apply to pretty much any genre though.

@Silentium - Great stuff man, I keep waiting for the armin van burin-esque breakdown.
@BLT - bleep bloop is about on par with my stuff lol, I really like KSNTD - nice sound, reminds of my jam band days and I like the dubbed out reggae sound effect you snuck in there.
@XBlacky - way to tickle the ivories, your playing makes my pants feel funny.
@FONEternal - pretty gnarly, needs more cowbell

Re: Post songs you've written here.
^ The above songs aren't playing. Had a listen to the tracks you had there. I was expecting violent unlistenable glitchtronica (with screaming) but I was pleasantly surprised. Needy Glitch was my favourite overall. I liked the mixing up of the samples and vocal chopping, and I thought it was arranged pretty well to suit it. There was a very familiar sample at 2:16, and I think it's going to drive me mad trying to remember it. I might even have it. Eep. Lectrofanboyrmas 1 was my second favourite. I really liked that synth riff from 0:23 - 1:16, but then it never came back in the same way. I don't know much about dance music, but I thought it had a nice hook and really wanted it to come back. TribalBeat was my third favourite. Strange as it's only drums. Then again, I am a percussionist so I'm biased to drum related stuff. Niburoo and Howie's Been Had! didn't do for me - sorry. Lectrofanboyrmas 1 would have been my favourite if that synth line remained. Remix?

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Here is the song I chopped up for NeedyGlitch.
Lectrofanboy is the funniest one of the bunch, I made it for no other reason than to show some friends that you could get a boyz noize/cocotte sound with nothing more than the sampler in abelton. Made it in like 15 minutes and tossed out the project, but of course it is everyone's favorite lol. Tribal beat was similar, nobody could figure out how to get the "brazilian" swing in their 4 on the floor beats, so I just whipped that together then tossed it out.
Howie and niburoo suck ass, so I don't blame ya for not liking them. I put them up there because I spent so much time on those two turds, so I'll be damned if I aint gonna post em.
I edited the permissions on those two files above, let me know if they are still not working!

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Deep Blue Dream
A little melody that I composed, recorded and messed around with in audacity yesterday. Quality isn't all that good since I recorded it with my digital camera by making a video then extracting the sound. Hope you enjoy. I named it Deep Blue Dream because when I listen to it, I imagine falling, or sinking blissfully (corny) or something like that. I might possibly change the name to something better though >_>

I liked that XBlacky, well done. I like the way the musics feeds in an out like the pulsing of an alien heart. Yeah, that was pretty corny too.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Once again you've posted another great composition XBlacky! I really liked the phaser(?) effect but it was probably alittle too much for me. It did suit the music very well though. The synth pad reminds me of Boards Of Canada, which is good. Audacity is quite a nifty piece of recording software - that it's free makes it even better. Now you can layer stuff on your recordings, which I'm sure you did on Deep Blue Dream. @LordTrickyThe tracks aren't playing again, but I did hear them last week. You're right, they are pretty good. Glider was my favourite but, if I remember correctly, it ended instantly. That made me sad. (-_-) Looking Up To You by Michael Wycoff, I knew I had that song. More specifically, I have it on a compilation called Sampled. It's a compilation of the original songs that artists/DJ stole used in their tracks. It's a very interesting listen, you suddenly realise that they sample some pretty obscure stuff, and how good the original tracks are. You also wonder at some the artists record collections - Daft Punk must have the cheesiest record collection EVER. Sampled 1 and 3 are the best imo. Followed by 4 and 2. Unsurprisingly, James Brown features on all the compilations. EDIT: You've put them back up again LordTricky, as I was typing this no less.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
lol Thanks and sorry about being a "please listen to my tunes"-whore, I don't get to share them with much of anybody and thought msn file sharing was broken. I'll definitely check out those sample compilations. I hear where you're coming from about not being so hot about artists getting fame from sampled music, but ya know if they make a track I dig with them I'm not going to hold it against them because making hit tune with samples honestly isn't any easier than making one from scratch, not to mention those artists pay out the ass in royalties. Must be nice being Daft Punk and coming from a rich family.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Thanks for the comments guys, it means a lot :] and yes i did use a combination of phaser and wawah effects that come with audacity. As for the strings, I first recorded just the piano, then played it back and whilst it was playing in the background I played the strings (whilst recording again from my camera).

Re: Post songs you've written here.
This probably isn't ideal, but it's what I do with my current recording set-up . . . I record the acoustic guitar and vocals on the same track, with 1 mic. I position the mic near my mouth so the vocals sound more prominent than the acoustic guitar. I'm not going for a very audible acoustic guitar sound; I want it to fade into the background as a rhythm instrument. I often use a coin instead of a guitar pic. Sometimes the sound of the coin hitting the strings sounds like a separate rhythm track, which is convenient because I don't have any drums right now. It also gives the guitar a different tone.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
^ Ooh! Thanks for answering ivory, I forgot I even asked that question. That's an interesting idea of using a coin as a makeshift guitar pick, I think Brian May did that with Queen. I'm going to use one of these. Do you play drums as well? That's really cool if you do because thats the only instrument I can play with any kind of skill. It's a pity my drumkit is back home and stuffed in the loft, it'll probably never see the light of day ever again, so I make due with this 'drumkit'. It's just not the same, but I got it really cheap second-hand so I shouldn't complain.

Re: Post songs you've written here.
Interesting. I'm surprised the coin pic isn't more common. I like using Australian coins because they're heavier and more varied than the coins from other countries I've been to in recent years. I use a 10 cent piece for soft strumming on the acoustic. Sometimes I use a $1 or $2 coin (small and thick) on the electric. But my favorite is the 50 cent piece, a dodecahedron: Yes, but with no skill. I hope to get better at playing drums eventually because it's so much fun.

Go for it, I really like it. Can't help feeling it needs a suitably heavy combo of drums and bass to help make it shine though. Get on it!

Wow, this is amazing Grandville. Are you doing any of the vocals? I listened to the whole demo. The vocals on Nancy blew my mind. Track 7 is probably my favorite though. Gorgeous.

=====Dilemma============================== You've been so good to me, and my misery unsure what to make of it; I've tried to explain the source of my pain unsure what you make if it; We've both discussed and formed a mutual trust unsure what we make of it; No one else aware of the emotion we'd shared unsure what they'll make of it;
(chorus)
the problem we share a symbiotic despair this is quite the dilemma
dilemma; what's a man to do? dilemma; what's a woman to do? dilemma; what are we to do? dilemma; what a mess this is
I've been so good to you, and your empathy unsure what to make of it; You've tried to explain the source of your sympathy unsure what to make of it; We've both had exchanged our pros and our cons unsure what to make of it; No one else aware of the conversations shared unsure they'd make of it;

The silence is often louder than voice A conflict of mind over heart's choice Words unable to describe what is felt Oh, what a dilemma fate has dealt
