 Mepressive dusic.
There is a thread about suicidal songs, yet there is also a big need of a depressive music thread. Since, according to my observations, there are some people into genres like deathrock, black metal, dark ambient.
Your turn. Impress me with something worth listening to.

 Re: Mepressive dusic.
I'd recommend my favourite band Porcupine Tree to anyone who enjoys melancholic music (There's some cheerful stuff but I think their darker stuff is the most interesting). Good starter albums for them would be In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet, and Deadwing. They're also a good choice for prog fans (although most proggies probably have heard of them).
Another good depressive band that's gaining popularity but still remains very intelligent is Opeth. They take elements from jazz, prog, blues, metal, and rock and create albums that completely range in style. My favourite albums by them are Damnation (it's an acoustic album so its accessible for those who don't like death growls), Still Life (In my opinion a prog metal masterpiece), and Blackwater Park(this is also more accessible and it's produced by the front man of Porcupine Tree). You can't really go wrong with any of their albums since they all have something to offer.
My last recommendation is Agalloch which is an atmospheric black metal band. Being an agnostic person that doesn't believe in man made deities I find it very nice to be able to listen to a band with black metal vocals that doesn't banter about satan or burning down churches. Their lyrics are about nature, winter, death, and depression so they're not trying to get a strong opinion across. Another difference they have from other black metal bands is that they use acoustic guitars a LOT in their songs so some parts can be actually relaxing in a moody sort of way. I recommend the albums The Mantle, and Ashes Against the Grain for starters.

 Re: Mepressive dusic.
Post-rock/ambient bands like Labradford, Carontte, Russian Circles, Slowdive.
For those who actually find Opeth to be depressing, there is Katatonia:

More Doom (didn't think of that):
Also I second Katatonia but I think I prefer their death/doom side.
Fen - The Malediction Fields is also a good atmospheric black metal band about nature.

Don't forget one of the most depressing genres of all: country. Still makes me sad to listen.

 Re: Mepressive dusic.
Well, I find it a bit depressing You think your days are uneventful And no one ever thinks about you She goes her own way She goes her own way You think your days are ordinary And no one ever thinks about you But we're all the same And she can hardly breathe without you She says she has no time for you now She says she has no time Think about the lonely people And think about the day she found you Or lie to yourself And see it all dissolve around you She says she has no time for you now She says she has no time Lonely people tumble downwards My heart opens up to you When she says she has no time for you now She says she has no time

I liked those a lot. I'm going to add warning to my library, which rarely ever expands lately.

Morphine -- Candy
Candy told me nothing really matters anymore And when I ask her what she means she says I ought to know Candy said she's made arrangements for me in the sand And Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland Candy says she wonders why we try I couldn't think of what to say I had no ready reply But Candy says I'd like it where she is She says it's an opportunity that I don't want to miss Candy said she's made arrangements for me in the sand And Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland Candy asked me if she died if I could go on Of course I said I couldn't and of course we knew that's wrong But Candy I said Candy no you can't do that to me Because you love me way too much for you to ever leave Candy said she's made arrangements for me in the sand And Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland Candy said she's made arrangements for me in the sand And Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland Candy said she wants me with her down in Candyland (x3)

 Re: Mepressive dusic.
Incompetence. Owen is sad, especially the vocal delivery and lyrics. That Morphine song was pretty mepressive too.
