This is by no means a definite list but just a fun crack at it. I don't think any film can be considered the greatest ever because films aren't meant to be made into competition. Filmmaking isn't a sport, you know. But anyway, here are twenty of my favorites…

*Apocalypse Now (favorite war film)

*Amadeus

*Chungking Express

*Drunken Master 1 and 2 (If I had to choose my favorite martial arts films, it would be these two. Number one had the most engaging training sequences in a kung fu film to me. Number two had some of the most amazing fight chorography I have ever seen.)

*A Clockwork Orange

*Hard-Boiled

*Halloween

*Robocop

*Terminator 1 and 2

*The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

*Die Hard 1 and 3 (2 was so-so, and 4 was terrible, so they’re excluded)

*Pulp Fiction

*Taxi Driver

*Blade Runner

*Fight Club

*Dawn of the Dead

*Battle Royale

*Seven Samurai

*Blue Velvet

*Memories of Murder

I noticed my list consists of mostly one film from each auteur. For example, Coppola for “Apocalypse Now”, or Woo for “Hard-Boiled”.
