Post Re: Manga
red colored elegy by seiichi hayashi

""Seiichi Hayashi produced Red Colored Elegy between 1970 and 1971, in the aftermath of a politically turbulent and culturally vibrant decade that promised but failed to deliver new possibilities. With a combination of sparse line work and visual codes borrowed from animation and film, the quiet melancholy lives of a young couple struggling to make ends meet are beautifully captured in this poetic masterpiece.

Uninvolved with the political movements of the time, Ichiro and Sachiko hope for something better, but they're no revolutionaries; their spare time is spent drinking, smoking, daydreaming, and sleeping--together and at times with others. While Ichiro attempts to make a living from his comics, Sachiko's parents are eager to arrange a marriage for her, but Ichiro doesn't seem interested. Both in their relationship and at work, Ichiro and Sachiko are unable to say the things they need to say, and like any couple, at times say things to each other that they do not mean, ultimately communicating as much with their body language and what remains unsaid as with words."

it's the only manga i've read. for some reason i have trouble following all the bubbles around the page.. i never know which to read first. same thing with western comics.. alls i've read is daniel clowes' ghost world. luckily this one didn't have much dialogue so it wasn't hard at all. plus the artwork is pretty cool:

Post Re: Manga
I just finished Bokurano and I still stand by my recommendation. It's a great series with great characters disguised as a giant robot anime.

I'm currently reading Mirai Nikki which I'm really enjoying so far. (I'm not liking the main character though for some reason.) I'll write something on it some other time when I finish it.

8. Mirai Nikki
Image

Mirai Nikki is an ongoing series about a boy named Yuki who as a hobby acts as a bystander and records his surroundings in a diary on his cell phone. One day a god, and Yuki's friend, Deus Ex Machina gives Yuki a strange phone and says that it is a part of a game he thought up of. Yuki soon finds that his new phone can predict the future by displaying diary entries from his future self. Yuki soon after meets a homicidal girl who is also his deeply in love stalker. Soon Yuki finds out that he has been put into a bounty hunt where he must hunt and avoid being hunted by other future diary hunters. I think this anime is worth a read and contains one of the staples of the yandere character type. There are some bat shit insane people in this manga and most of the archs lead to action and violence (which is always fun in my case). So if you're looking for an interesting and entertaining seris with interesting and entertaining characters then I recommend this series to you.

Apologies for any inadaquate writing as I'm dead tired right now.

Post Re: Manga
My personal recommendations would have to be:

1. Lone Wolf and Cub -- all-time greatest samurai manga ever created. Goseki Kojima's artwork is stunning.

2. Akira -- easily the most cinematic manga ever created

3. Mushishi -- follows Ginko, a drifter who has special knowledge about the creatures known as 'mushi' (Japanese for 'insect'), as he wanders the mountains and villages of late ninieteenth century Japan. The most poetic of the manga I have read.

4. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind -- Hayao Miyazaki, the director of Princess Mononoke and Spirit Away's only manga. It's a masterpiece.

Post Re: Manga
I just finished another series I want to recommend.
10. Seizon - Life
Image

Takeda was just diagnosed with cancer after his wife had already fought but died from it. His only daughter has been missing for fourteen years. He truly believes he has nothing to live for. One day a call from the police department calls Takeda with the news that they have found his daughter's body in a construction site. It is almost certain to be a murder and Takeda devotes his remaining days of living to finding the killer of his daughter. The statute of limitations is close to the time he has left to live so he has little time to find the killer and he is left with absolutly no leads on where he might find him.
I can't say much else about it other than it was a very enjoyable to read melancholic mystery manga with very thought provoking themes on family and justice. It's a fairly short series (the first few chapters contain 100 pages but the rest of the chapters are about the average length of a manga chapter) and it is finishable within a day or two. So I recommend this to those who like series with mystery, detectives, cops, and depressing themes.

I've been reading "Aozora ni tooku Sakebitari". It's really funny and the main heroine is adorable.

Kiss x Sis is so ecchi it's practially ero. So, I don't really. The only thing that springs to mind is Kodomo no Jikan but I only read a little because I was curious what the hubbub was all about. It struck me as rather tame if you factor out the age of protagonist. Maybe To Love Ru? I haven't read that either so I don't know how ecchi it is but the glimpse I took of the anime made it seem a contendor. Ladies vs Butlers straddles the line between ero and ecchi too. I didn't like it but I've heard of other people enjoying it. I think I have bad taste when it comes to ecchi. I just like Queen's Blade and Ikkitousen. Oh and Strike Witches. I don't read ecchi manga either, just anime.

Post Re: Manga
I finished recently an awesome manga. It tells about a dangerous earthquake in Tokyo and its horrible results. :thumbsup

51 Ways To Save Her (Kanojo o Mamoru 51 no Hōhō) by Furuya Usamaru
On Japan's manmade island of Odaiba, a young man comes to the aid of a girl he knew from school.
Just a few minutes later, a massive earthquake hits, bringing untold destruction and cutting the island off from nearby Tokyo. Together with their fellow survivors, the young couple must find a way out of their nightmarish surroundings. But even if they get off the island, will there be anyone alive to help them?
