Re: Tell me what you think of this song
it's not my favourite song of theirs (or even my favourite off that album) but i love rick danko's bass grooves, very funky! though it doesnt hold a candle to the weight

Re: Tell me what you think of this song
They remind me of Funkadelic without the funk or lsd. Mediocre to Okay musicians who are decent together. It sucks is harsher than I would rate it, but thats the direction it is leaning.

Re: Tell me what you think of this song
I like this song better:
Fun fact: My niece thought that the person who does vocals in this song was Kermit the Frog.

Re: Tell me what you think of this song
I like that song a lot. I like beautiful melodic ballads about death (which obviously includes war). Interesting that the song was written by a Canadian. It comes across as genuinely heart-felt, and yet I don't think of Canadians getting emotional about the American Civil War the way a lot of Americans do.

Re: Tell me what you think of this song
Have you heard it before? A few members of the band were actually American. They're mostly regarded as being a Canadian band because they were formed in Canada.

Re: Tell me what you think of this song
Yes, I have heard that song before. Its author, Robbie Robertson, is Canadian. That's what I was referring to. Not that it matters much. There are plenty of examples of people writing good songs about historical events that didn't take place in their country of origin. I guess what I was getting at was that I wonder how that song is received in the south. It seems like it would be kind of an anthem for Confederate sympathizers, and yet it was written by a Canadian - I wonder if they know or care.

The Band is great. If you haven't seen The Last Waltz, you should. It's definitely one of the greatest concert films ever made.
