Post Changing seasons and depression
I get depressed when Winter turns into Spring/Summer, and also when Summer turns into Fall/Winter.

I can't stand how seasons change. I think the reason why is because I enjoy Summer, but know I won't be doing anything during it. When it's over, I think "that was a wasted Summer" and it's back to gloomy Fall & Winter, which are depressing seasons. I wouldn't dislike them so much if my life was better, but these changing seasons often increase my depression/anxiety, especially at the start of a new season.

I looked outside a few minutes ago and saw that the snow was melting, which would make me feel good if I was doing something with my life, but I know that I'll spend Summer as a recluse missing out on good times, which is highly depressing to me.

I don't think it massively effects me, but i prefer the cold to the hot. I feel that i can warm up fairly easily, but it's a lot harder to cool down. So, i'm a winter 'fan', although this years winter was pushing it a bit. Too fucking cold y'know.

I'm the opposite... I find it easier to cool down than warm up.

That sound like you?

It sounds just like me except for: "Increased appetite with weight gain" and "Carbohydrate cravings". On the first... when I am depressed, I eat less and lose weight usually. On the second... well, I need caffeine at least once a day lest I get grouchy. :no So that doesn't change with the seasons at all.

Sounds like SAD to me. My brother has it.

Sometimes it makes me feel bad. The other day was the first day that felt like spring here, but I wasn't really sad or upset about it. It actually felt so different, so for some reason I felt happy, but I know some people hate that. The unique smells each season produces are nice and there are things I love about each season.

It does sound like seasonal affective disorder you're experiencing. I'm the same way, only my depression worsens in the Spring & especially the Summer, & I feel best in Autumn & Winter. I hate just about everything about Summer. It's too overwhelming. Too many people, too much noise, far too bright, far too hot. I'm just dreading it. I wish it would stay Autumn forever.

My mood nosedives when fall changes to winter.
It's more the shorter periods of sunlight than the falling temps, as I prefer cooler weather.
Now, it's not as if I'm out there playing frisbee or going out on picnics in the sunlight.
I've just always noticed a sharp increase in my anxiety levels the shorter the days get.

I hate Spring/Summer. Short nights, heat waves, lots of people around.... and I'm kinda forced to wear light clothes. I don't like that - it just makes me feel naked when I'm outside.
So I'm quite the Autumn/Winter type. I can at least decide how warm/cold it should be. If it's too cold I can wear more clothes or put the heater on.

I get depressed during the Summer when I think of how everyone has someone to spend their time with and I usually spend it all alone. But I am always lonely so seasons don't make me depressed. You should check out Seasonal depression, if you get depressed during specific times of the year.

I don't think what I have is Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I actually think that the change of seasons bothers me mostly for one reason: it reminds me that time is moving ahead.

I prefer autumn and winter to spring and summer possibly because my mother used to make me go outside more often during the warmer months. I also find it easier to warm up than cool down.

All the seasons are the same where i live.. Literally. Winter might be 1-2 degrees colder than usual and it only really lasts for a couple of weeks.
Every day is just like the last.

I'd prefer to live somewhere with snow.

I enjoy seasons changing. Everytime it happens I feel reborn. In tune with nature and the universe, an endless cycle.

l know what you mean. l was originally diagnosed with SAD, but now it's evolved into something more complicated. For me, l don't necessarily notice the change in climate, but my body reacts to it instinctively. l'm more a warmer weather girl. l hate the cold. l wish l could live somewhere more tropical.

@Fen: l'll trade places with you any day, hun. Here in Canada, we have plenty of snow.

Don't be so sure, Chair.

The West has some of the cruelest winters. Hell, there's snow falling about half an hour away from me.

Fortunately or unfortunately, there are no seasons here - just temperamental storms and blazing sunshine throughout the year. I hate it all the same.

Instead of feeling depressed during the change of seasons, it's the change of the time of day for me. But my depression sometimes feels like it's random. :dunno

Well, compared to the part of Canada Chair's in, Vancouver's snowy days are like summer rains. Though up north, l can assure you bc is as cruel and snowy as Alaska.

I am getting depressed from the change of summer to autumn/winter...
The daylight time getting shorter, I really need the sun/ natural light to do something...
I just fall back into old habits I tried hard to change, I become lazy again and don't get a thing done
can't motivate myself, I feel more depressed, I hate it

I really like it when seasons change, but when the seasons are prolonged I can get moody or terminally bored. This is especially apparent in the winter time.

I prefer Autumn/Winter to Spring/Summer, because I can't stand the heat, the bright sunlight and all the noise outside. When Autumn comes I always feel better because of the lower temperatures. But at the same time, the dark and grey weather can make me feel depressed.
I've been feeling depressed for a few weeks now actually and I really hate it. I'm tired a lot and I don't feel like doing anything. I'm also more anxious than usual.

I view it this way:
summertime; depressed by people out & about and summertime flings
Fall/winter; depressed by the 'holiday' season.
Spring; depressed by Valentine's Day

...rinse & repeat.

Spring makes me feel the worst. You know. "When the warm winds come again, another year will start to pass..."

Winter is a comforting season. Death is close in the howling, snow-blanketed night. Slipping off into it, or at least the thought of it, always calms me in an odd way.
